Tigre Can't Hold Banfield

Try as they might, Tigre could not keep Banfield from scoring forever. In the end, they did well, keeping Newell's rivals for the title off the score board until the 84th minute, when Víctor López broke the deadlock.

So, Newell's are back to second, two points behind leaders Banfield. The final scheduled matches of the Apertura will be this weekend, Banfield facing a poor Boca Juniors, while Newell's must deal with San Lorenzo. While Banfield may be facing the weaker opponent on paper, they will be playing at "La Bombonera," always a tough place to win. Newell's will be hosing, so things are about as even as they possibly could be. Both matches will be played on Sunday.

One way, or the other, it's going to be an exciting finish to the race for the Apertura 2009 title.
