And, to follow up on a comment left by Juan... yes, Peratta, we all forgive you. Harsh words spoken in the heat of the moment are just that. Fabbiani, you fat bastard, so sorry that your selfishness has you idle during what should be the prime of your career... someday, someone may forgive you your transgressions, but not today. Today you are the part of the above clip that nearly had me falling out of my chair laughing.
Good luck finding a new club to play for, Ogro. You've burned bridges at every team you've played for. At this point, if anyone wants you, I'll be surprised.

Don't Let The Door Hit You On Your Way Out
First, the bit of news I can confirm. River Plate coach Leonardo Astrada as told Cristian "El Ogro" Fabbiani that his services are no longer need at the club. Having returned to Argentina to play with Newell's Old Boys for the Apertura 2008, El Ogro played brilliantly, endearing himself to the fans, but turned his back on us when Eduardo Lopez lost his presidency to Guillermo Lorente. When Lorente took over, El Ogro demanded a move, and only River Plate would do.
Reporting to River for training for the Clausura 2009 out of shape, which could not have pleased the board of Los Millonarios. Due to the long negotiations between he was also late in starting his training with his new club, and started the season as a second half sub. Even so, he once again showed good form, and was earning the adoration of a new set of fans.
It wasn't long though, before his form dropped, along with the weight he had gained between championships. For the Apertura 2009, River surely had high hopes for the striker, as he was able to train with the club during the full off season, but after only playing in 9 matches out of the teams 16 played, and with no goals to his credit, Astrada had enough.
No surprise, really, it's been Fabbiani's way through out his career. Other than Lanus, his original club, he hasn't spent more than a year with any team. His contract is still held by Romanian club CFR Cluj, he was only on loan with Newell's, and then River, but will they want him back? At this point, would any team take a risk on him?
The second bit of business I haven't found another source for, but according to an article from Momento 24 Javier Collado is considering retirement. If he does retire, I can only imagine every futbol fan in Argentina, every fan of Argentine futbol in the world, joining as one to celebrate as if their team had just one a championship by beating their biggest rival on the last day of the season.
Now, I suppose I could be wrong. Collado could have a fan or two out there, and, if by any chance, you are one of them, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you. Really.

Featherless Hens
Finally, after going 9 straight games with out a win, Newell's pulled one out of the hat at home. Making this a extra special win was that this was Fabbiani's first game against Newell's wearing the diagonal red strip of River Plate after having turned his back on La Lepra.
I'll keep this simple, and quick, as I must be off shortly. Mauro Formica scored the loan goal in the 82nd minute, and, from what I saw of the game (missed the entire first half due to computer problems... more on that when I post the video for the game) El Ogro was pretty much a non factor.
In fact, if I had to pick a player who defined this game, I'd actually have to go with River's goalkeeper, Daniel Vega. He made a number of stops look easy that a lesser keeper would have had trouble with. In fact, he even got a hand on Formica's goal... just not enough to save it!
And so, the hens have been plucked, next week Los Canallas! Right now Rosario Central are ahead of Newell's in the standings by 3 points, which makes a must win game even more important than ever. They are also still sitting in the relegation playoff zone, with an average of 1.178 points per game over the last three seasons. For them to end up relegated and finish higher in the standings than Newell's just isn't acceptable.

Lucas Bernardi To Return... Fabbiani, Fabbiani, Fabbiani
With the aftermath begining to settle, Newell's are in no position to spend a dime on in coming players. To the rescue would come Lucas Bernardi on a free transfer, and he says he know's the situation, he just wants to come back and help out.
The question is, will the move work? Right now, I'd say that he'd only come back to face Hernán Bernadello for a place on the starting 11. Then again, maybe it would allow one of them to venture forward more often.
I'm still expecting a January fire sale. Bernardi I don't see going. Fabbiani we know is gone, good ridence, so long, have fun a River when they go down in three years (did I really just wish that on Los Millonarios? If they fill their team full of foul smelling mercenaries like El Ogro, it's just what they deserve.)
No, forget that. I want to see the deal with River fall through, and Fabbiani end up with Los Canallas. It will give me reason to hate him proper.

The Unhappy Ogre
During the later stages of the Aperatura I read time and time again qoutes from Fabbiani saying he wanted to stay, he wanted to stay, he wanted to stay. Now, suddenly, with Lopez gone, he gives an interview and says he was never paid, from the beginning of the season and throughout. Because of this, he's asking to be released from Newell's, and is joined by Sebastián Peratta, Pablo Aguilar.
Meanwhile, the contracts have been gathered from the AFA offices, and Lorente and his crew are working to straighten things out. Still, there's the problem of proof. With out the books to show who's been paid, and who hasn't, and how many payments were missed...
Ogro, you won our hearts with your play, now must you lose our trust with your greed? Yes, if you are owed money you are entitled to it, but do not punish the new president for the sins of his predecessor. Give Lorente time to sort things out, if you must do otherwise, go after he who did not pay you, not the club he ran into the ground.
The new team treasurer, Jorge Ricobelli, has said that the team must do just that. May the Wheels of Justice be swift, least the entire roster turn their backs on the team.
