No Favors From Central

As expected, Boca Jrs have claimed third place in the standings with a 2-1 win over Rosario Central at Alberto J. Armando stadium, commonly known as La Bombonera. Lucas Viatri and Nicolás Gaitán scoring for Los Xeneises, sandwiching Emilio Zelaya's tally for Central.

The leaders did not have as easy a time of it as San Lorenzo played away to Racing Club. Racing, like Central, have been fighting for National A survival of late, but jumped to a 1-0 lead by way of a Adrián Lucero goal in the very first minute of play. In the 18th minute they doubled that lead when Nicolas Bianchi Arce took Maximiliano Moralez down in the area. Moralez converted the ensuing penalty. Aureliano Torres pulled one back for El Ciclon in the second half, but it was nothing more than a consolation goal.

So, with the important games over we see San Lorenzo's lead slipping, but still on top with 25 pts, followed by Tigre with 23, Boca 20, Newell's 19, Lanus 18, and
Velez Sarsfield and San Martin (Tucumán) both with 16.

And, least I forget, here are the goals from the Newell's/Estudiantes match:

And that first Racing goal to help keep San Lorenzo on the horizon? Scored by none other than ex-NOB Lucero. Another of the Caruso refugees.

Did you see the Central game? Boca were waaaay out played, but still got the win.

I'm pulling for a mid-week victory for Central. I hate playing a team on a losing streak in a rivalry match.
