Very Superstitious

"Very superstitious, wash your face and hands,
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can"
Superstition - Stevie Wonder

After two straight home draws for Newell's, I decided it was time I did something that has worked in the past when things were not going the way this Leproso wanted for his team. I put on a jersey of another color... specifically that of Ferro Carril Oeste.

For those who are new to following Argentine Futbol, this is a team that you probably haven't heard of, they have, after all, been below the radar of the National A.

Currently, they are playing in the Primera B National, Argentina's second division. It wasn't too long ago that they were down in what was then called the National C, now called the Primera B Metropolitana, winning the 2002-2003 championship gained them promotion into their current division.

When I lived in Argentina back in the early 1970s Ferro were one of those teams that was never a threat to win any titles, but were always a club capable of pulling off an upset. No flashy players, no stars, just a group of journeymen players on a team scrapping by, with their biggest goal being to avoid relegation... so, when I heard that they were newly crowned 3rd division champions I decided I'd get one of their jerseys (I own two of Newell's, and will, at a future date, surely own more.)

Now in Ferro's history, they haven't always been a weak side. In fact, for a brief moment during the 1980s they were one of Argentina's better futbol teams, winning the National in both 1982 and again in 1984. Below is a picture of the 1982 Champions.
But enough about Ferro, on to the superstitions of a North American Leper. Soon after having gotten the green jersey of La Verdolaga I began wearing it after Newell's went through stretches with out winning. So far, save for when Pumpido was coach (fighting the urge to spit,) doing so has brought a victory in the next match.

Let us hope that sharing this will not break the charm. Furthermore, let us hope that I don't feel the need to wear the shirt of another color for a very long time.

If anyone else has a superstition of a similar nature they would like to share, by all means feel free. Unless, of course the sharing breaks the charm.
