Newell's Old Boys: 2010 Apertura Fixture List

The AFA finally stopped sitting on their collective hands and released the 2010 Apertura fixture list yesterday (OK, they were debating whether or not to give D10S, er, Diego Maradona for those who don't know him by his deified name, an extended run as National Team manager.)

The first weekend will be that of Sunday, August 8th, which is right around the corner. Newell's first match won't be an easy one, despite being at home, as La Lepra will be playing hosts to Estudiantes.

Here's Newell's full schedule (exact dates yet to be determined:)

1 - Estudiantes de La Plata - Home
2 - Lanús- Away
3 - Tigre - Home
4 - Huracán- Away
5 - Independiente - Home
6 - Argentinos Juniors- Away
7 - River Plate - Home
8 - Arsenal - Away
9 - Vélez Sarsfield - Home
10 - Quilmes - Home
11 - Banfield - Away
12 - Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata - Home
13 - Godoy Cruz (Mendoza) - Away
14 - Racing Club - Home
15 - All Boys - Away
16 - Boca Juniors - Home
17 - San Lorenzo - Away
18 - Olimpo (B.Blanca) - Home
19 - Colón de Santa Fe - Away

According to my sources, we've managed to bring in Luis Rodríguez (forward) from Atlético Tucumán, Leandro Velázquez (midfielder) from Vélez Sarsfield, and Luciano Vella (defender) from Independiente.

The list of players leaving is longer:

Jorge Achucarro - Atlas
Hugo Barrientos - All Boys
Leandro Benítez - Chacarita Jrs.
Juan Insaurralde - Boca Juniors
Cristian Núñez - Quilmes
Juan Quiroga - Colón de Santa Fe
Nahuel Roselli - Quilmes

All these players, with the exception of Benitez, had parts to play in the success Newell's had over the 09-10 season. Sanchez-Prette and Diego Torres either should already be on that list, or will be soon. And I'm still holding my breath on Mauro Formica and Joaquín Boghossian's futures with the club.
