Election Day

The day has come, though I don't know when we'll get the results of the voting. Lopez or Lorente will take the glory, and we will either celebrate, or cry.

The importance of this election can be illustrated by the fact that Marcello Bielsa, currently coach of Chile's national team, will be in Rosario to cast his vote. Bielsa lead Newell's to two Championships as a coach during the early 90's. They also beat Boca Jrs in the 1990-91 Torneo Integración on penalties, back when the winner of the Apertura faced the Clausura winners to claim the over all title.

With all the back handed tactics that have failed Lopez to this point, I hope there are no problems during the actual voting. Lopez has stated there are no Newell's Barra Brava, but today could well prove him wrong... but, still, images of violence fill my head.

I pray my fears are wrong, that all go peacefully to the polls. I pray that the votes are all counted, whether cast for Lorente, or Lopez. And I pray that an honest man wins.

Newell's Down Racing Club To Close Apertura

Gamboa experimented with the lineup again, this time going with a 3-5-2 formation, but I can make no complaints this time around. Racing were dismantled if the score line is to be believed. It was 3-0, and while Zapata missing a penalty in his retirement game, Bernadello pounced on the rebound to score.

With Deigo Torrez out of the game suspended, Ernesto Cristaldo was put into the lineup as a forward next to El Ogro Fabbiani. I can't say much about Cristaldo, haven't seen him play. Then there's the fact that one website lists him as a defender, another has him as a forward. Well, he played next to Fabbiani, guess that makes him a forward, eh?

Nuls Line-up:
Sebastián Peratta;
Ignacio Pillud, Nicolás Spolli, Juan Insaurralde;
Gastón Machín, Hernán Bernardello, Ariel Zapata, Leonel Vangioni, Leandro Torres;
Ernesto Cristaldo, Cristian Fabbiani

Subs
Germán Caffa for Sebastián Dario Peratta (45)
Mauro Fórmica for Leandro Torres (54)
Mauricio Sperdutti for Gastón Machín (84)

Scoring
57' Formica
86' penalty by Zapata saved
86' Bernardello (rebound from saved penalty)
90' Insaurralde

True to form for the season, we end the opening championship with a blow out, yet 2 of the 3 goals were scored by defensive players.

Pablo Aguilar Out For The Rest Of Apertura 08

Newell's Old Boys defender Pablo Aguilar will miss the final three games of the Apertura due to an ankle injury. This comes at a bad time, as the defense hasn't exactly looked solid the last few games.

On the plus side Fabbiani should be back on the field for this Sunday's game against Vélez Sarsfield. This may be a home game, but Vélez are always a tough team to beat. As things stand, Newell's is in 6th place in the Apertura standings, with Vélez one point ahead of us in 5th. In my mind that makes this a must win game.

The expected lineup vs Vélez:

Peratta; Ré, Schiavi, Juan Insaurralde, Quiroga; Gastón Machín, Hernán Bernardello, Leonel Vangioni; Leandro Torres; Diego Torres y Fabbiani.

Newell's vs Arsenal 11-21-08 highlights

Here's a video of the highlights from last weekend's game between Newell's and Arsenal. It includes footage of both of Spolli's yellow cards, and frankly I have to say that, while they were fouls, I do not think either were deserving of such sever punishment.

There's also bits of some interviews at the end. I do not know off hand who the Newell's player that they interview is, but they ask him why Newell's lost. He simply and honestly replies "because we did not play well."

Still, even with out the win, it is not the end of the world. Hopefully Gamboa will be allow to continue the work that he's started, and the players dressing in rojinegro will continue on to form the nuclious of a bright future for Los Leprosos.

That leads me to my biggest fear... with the election coming up in December all kinds of odd things can happen. And then there is the January transfers. As is the way with Futbol Argentino we can expect a few faces to move out, and others to enter the picture.

Lopez could end up retaining his position and punish all those who opposed him by disassembling what is a very good Newell's team. With all the quality players being fielded at the moment it could bring a lot of money... which would no doubt go the same why the fee for Cardozo went.

On a similar vein, if he's replaced, the new man in charge could decide to rid the team of players simply because they were brought in during Eduardo's reign. If that's the case, I'd expect Gamboa could be stripped of his job.

Just thinking about it has me wanting to pull out my hair... and I don't have enough of it left to be doing that kind of thing. Instead, this will be the last I post of such speculation until after the election takes place.

Say Goodbye To Newell's Title Chase, Can They At Least Stay In The Top 5?

Newell's went on the road needing a win against Arsenal de Sarandí, but could only manage another tie. This was another game that I didn't get to see, never even had a chance, damn the time difference. I was still at work when the final whistle blew.

As expected, Fabbiani and Insaurralde sat this game out, which I'm sure didn't help the cause. Spolli, playing as a starter for the first time sense his injury, did himself no favors when the referee saw fit to show him a red card in the 65th minute... he already had a yellow, so it may not have been a direct red. Either way, once you've got one card drawn on you, it's time to take some care out there. This insures, however, that Insaurralde will be back in the lineup for the next round.

Pablo Aguilar opened the scoring to put Newell's in the lead in the first half. Arsenal's goal came around 5 minutes after Spolli was ejected... have to wonder how things would have turned out if he would have been able to play the full game.

Now we fans, the players, and Gamboa must remember, there are still three more games to play. They may only be for pride at this point, but remaining, or regaining a top 5 position is still a goal to be met, and hopefully they can build on that during the Clausura.

Time For The Rest Of The Teams At The Top To Have A Laugh

Some how, some way, Vélez Sarsfield managed to go into La Bombonera and beat Boca Jrs 3-2. That leaves San Lorenzo and Tigre tied in 1st on 30 points, Boca 3rd with 29, Lanus 25, Newell's 24, Vélez 23, Colón de Santa Fe 22, and three teams tied with 21.

Based on that, Newell's are closer to getting knocked out of the top 5 than they are climbing up into the lead. With 4 games to go, there are 12 point to try for. Even if we win them all, that means the top three will all have to drop at least half those points. It's not likely, but stranger things have happened.

Here's the goal's from San Lorenzo and Newell's 3-3 goal fest.

Having watched them, all I can do is blame Peratta, Newell's keeper. All he had to do to stop San Lorenzo's second goal was to stand there, the shot was right at him. He was also the one who committed the foul gifting Los Cuervos the penalty for their third.

Banfield Should Have Been Worth A Point... So Why Did We Lose 2-1?

I missed the first half as the game started just as I was leaving work. Well, actually I kinda saw Diego Torres' freekick towards the end of the half. I got to see the first two goals when they showed half time highlights, Cristian García opened the scoring for Banfield 4 minutes in, Fabbiani tying in the 21st. Marcelo Bustamante scored for Banfield in the 38th, but the feed was buffering as they showed it, so I missed it.

The second half was scoreless. Newell's had a few good opportunities, but so did Banfield. Still, we out shot them, out played them, we just didn't get the goals. This loss in and of itself may well have cost the team all hope of catching the leaders. Well see how they do in their games, but for now, Lanus has leapt over us having beaten Central by the same score.

Now, I know it's still early November, but no sense waiting... what Newell's needs to go after in the Apertura/Clausura break is a true goal scorer. As things are we're creating a lot of chances, but with out a true striker perhaps thinking of a title is asking a bit much.

It's not that it's not possible, mind you. We did it in 2004...

Further Notes From Clasico Rosarino 10/2/08

The above may not be the greatest quality, but it's the only vid I found that show's the penalty being called.

I've also learn that Fabbiani made another wonderful dribble into the penalty area in the second half, only to loft the ball over the top of the net. It's that type of thing that makes you wonder... I've seen one vid posted on Youtube that shows it, but it's so poor that it's hardly worth watching. Someone literally used a hand held camera (probably their cell phone) to capture it off their TV.

Meanwhile, not all the fans behaved, or was it the cops inciting? Problems outside the stadium had police firing rubber bullets into a group of supporters. I've seen nothing on whether they were Leproso, Canallas, or both. Supposedly there was footage that was aired on TV, so if anyone who reads this comes across such on the internet, or even has more information about it, please post a comment, and a link if you have one.

Newell's Champions Of The City

OK, so there isn't really an official Championship that was at stake, but Newell's did win at home over their hated crosstown rivals. I was hoping to watch the game, but all the feeds that I could find weren't working at all, the web pages that they were on wouldn't even load. Instead, I took a nap... it was the only way I could tolerate not knowing what was going on.

In the end, Gamboa's boys came away with a 1-0 win over Rosario Central. The goal was scored on a 20th minute penalty by, who else, Schiavi. From what I gather (via La Capital) Leo Torres had worked his way into the penalty area with the ball at his feet, Paglialunga then managed to tackle the ball away from him, only for Machin to come in and claim the ball. Paglialunga then fouled Machin to earn the shot from the spot.

This win allows us to pick up some ground in the standings. Tigre lost yesterday to hosts Argentinos Jrs 2-0, while Boca Jrs are hosting San Lorenzo even as I type this. At the moment Boca are ahead 1-0 about half way through the second half. If Boca hold on to win there will be a three way tie for first with San Lorenzo, Tigre and Boca all having 26 points.

Suddenly Newell's are back in the thick of things with 23 points... so long as Los Cuervos (San Lorenzo) don't stage a late comeback.

Maradona, Madman Or Messiah?

Nothing is official, not until Tuesday is the word, but it appears that Julio Grondona, the head of the Argentine federation has lost all sense of reality. Grondona, it's said, is due for a press conference this Tuesday to announce the appointment of Diego Maradona as the new Technical Director for the Albicelestes.

As reported in the Washington Post daily newspaper Clarin ran an online poll and nearly 74 percent of the vote indicated that appointing Maradona was not the best idea. In another poll, La Nacion found less than 10 percent of voters thought his selection was warranted.

Now Diego is being given all the help that the AFA can muster. He'll have Carlos Bilardo at his side, as well as well as others, but how much will he listen to them? Did he ever listen to any of his coaches while he was a player? What makes Grondona think he'll listen to his assistants? Or that his players will listen to him?

I'm sorry, but I can only compare this to the days at the end of baseball great Babe Ruth's career when he decided out of the blue that he wanted to become a manager. The Yankees laughed at any such suggestion, as did all the other teams in the majors save one. The Boston Braves were in debt, and sinking further, took on the Babe for his final season as an active player and was given the titles of team vice-president and assistant manager of the club. As long as Babe was in the lineup, Braves' owner Emil Fuchs figured the stands would be filled. It soon became apparent to Ruth that these titles were given to him only to lure him in.

It also reminds me of the story of another baseball legend's time as a manager. Ty Cobb, or so the story goes, went to the mound to talk to his struggling pitcher. "Son," Ty said, "I'd love to talk to 'ya about what your doing, but I don't know anything about pitching." And what, I must ask, does Diego know about the tactics and discipline needed to lead the Albicelestes out of it's current funk?

I'm afraid that the answer will be nothing, that he'll flop, and dispite all of the talent available to him Argentina could well end up not even qualifying for World Cup 2010.

No Matter What, This Is THE Match Of The Apertura

Rosario Central have escaped from their last place tie with River Plate, Newell's have gone 3 games with out a win, thus is the stage set. Suddenly their respective places in the standings don't matter. This is the Clasico Rosarino, and as anxious as I am for Newell's to get 3 points from the match, I'm also praying that the game can go on with out the antics of Clasicos past. Let the Barras behave for once, it's only a game, give the referee the wisdom and the vision to call the match fairly, it's only a game.

It's only a game, yet whenever I see anyone wearing the yellow and blue that make up the colors of Los Canallas I find myself having to check my temper. I do this because I live in a land that does not know of this rivalry. Here in Michigan those colors are called maize and blue, and are the colors of the University of Michigan. Here few other than myself follow a team that wear the red and black/rojo y negro of Newell's, so I acknowledge the flash of hot bloodedness, and let it pass.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosario_derby#Statistics the following stats on the Clasico can be found:

As they are only set through January 2008, we can add in Newell's 1-0 win from the Clausura earlier in the year.

What will happen tomorrow, only tomorrow will tell. Till then I'll be trying to not bite my nails.

Lineup for both teams according to La Capital:

Newell's
Peratta; Aguilar, Schiavi, Insaurralde, Ré; Machín, Bernardello, Vangioni; Leanrdo Torres; Diego Torres, Fabbiani.

Central
Broun; Danelón , Ribonetto, Braghieri, Jorge Núñez or Martin García or Ignacio Bogino; Zarif, Paglialunga, Jesús Méndez, Kily González; Vizcarra, Zelaya or Franzoia.

Double Dose Of Humiliation

Sense the International break when Argentina lost to Chile 1-0, Newell's has out played their opponents in three games, yet only have three point to show for it. Yes, yet again all La Lepra could manage was a tie today, this time 1-1 against hapless River Plate.

I had no chance to see this game, as it was over before I got home from work today. Browsing around I see that La Capital (a local Rosario newspaper) called the game 'careless,' and blamed Newell's player's being nervousness from playing in front of Los Millonarios in the stands. While it's true that River have only lost once at home, 2-1 against Velez Sarsfield, I'm certain that if Gamboa's boys would have played at the top of their game this match would have been more than winnable... and that makes 3 such games in a row.

Of course, even more upset over this result than Newell's fans would be those of River. This makes 10 games in a row for them with out a single win. In fact the only win they've had this season was in the second week against the team that up until today they had shared last place with, Rosario Central. But Los Canallas managed to win today, 3-0 over Gimnasia Jujuy.

With a fan base that is used to, and expects their precious River to challenge for the title every championship this must be infuriating... last place, all alone. And so, for fans of both teams, this wasn't a tie that was like kissing your sister, this was a result tantamount to bowing down and kissing your ugly sister's feet.

Just Another Draw

I tried watching the game between Newell's and Estudiantes, but with feed having to buffer nearly every 30 seconds I can't say I got even a half way decent idea as to the flow of the game. That was nearly as frustrating as the final score, 1-1. I can't imagine that Gamboa (pictured on the left making his way to the bench before the game) was very happy with the result, either.

Bernardello ended up playing. Either my source had the number of yellow cards summed up wrong, or he recieved special permission to play. With that being the case, the game being at home, and Verón being given a rest after Estudiantes played in the Copa Sudamericana mid-week this should have been an easier game than it was.

Leandro Desábato opened the scoring in the 58th minute for Estudiantes, with Fabbiani answering 3 minutes later. Looking at stats other than goals, Los Leprosos did the job. They out shot their opponents 16-3. with the edge of shots that were on target 8-2. They had 10 corner kicks compared to Los Pincharratas 2. But the only thing that counts in the end are goals.

After the game Fabbiani was interviewed, and they tried to get him to comment on the up coming Classico Rosarino. He rebuffed the interviewer stating that the team needs to concentrate on the game against River Plate on Wednesday before worrying about Central next weekend. That's a sentiment I wholeheartedly agree with. If his play hadn't won me over already, this interview certainly would have.

Tigre, meanwhile, showed that they know how to score goals, beating Huracan on the road 3-0. For now the standings have San Lorenzo in front with 25 pts from 10 games. next is Tigre with 23 from 11 games, and Newell's with 19/11.

Boca Jrs, currently on 17 points, have a real chance of leaping back up to third as they host Rosario Central tomorrow. So, for tomorrow, I'll be hoping for Los Canallas to gain points at La Bombonera.

Continuing The Chase?

Looking ahead to this afternoon's game against Estudiantes as both teams make substantial changes to their lineups from their last game.

Bernardello will be absent from Newell's, suspended due to yellow card accumulation. This would seem to be a major blow to the team from Rosario, but Estudiantes have been hit even harder. Diego Galván, Matías Sánchez, Juan Sebastián Verón, Gastón Fernández, and Mauro Boselli are expected to sit this one out. Not having Verón to deal with makes the exclusion of Bernardello lose some of it's sting, but Zapata will still have to play well for Los Leprosos to get the points needed to even dream of continuing the chase for the title, or even just for the honor of ending up in the top five at the end of the 19 game Apertura.

NEWELL'S:
Sebastián Peratta; Pablo Aguilar, Rolando Schiavi, Juan Insaurralde, Germán Ré; Gastón Machín, Ariel Zapata, Leonel Vangioni; Leandro Torres; Diego Torres y Cristian Fabbiani.

DT: Fernando Gamboa.

ESTUDIANTES: Mariano Andújar; Marcos Angeleri, Agustín Alayes, Christian Cellay, Juan Manuel Díaz; Enzo Pérez, Iván Moreno y Fabianesi, Rodrigo Braña, Leandro Benítez; Juan Manuel Salgueiro y José Luis Calderón.

DT: Leonardo Astrada.

Referee:
Carlos Maglio.

While Newell's host, Tigre and San Lorenzo will be on the road this weekend. Tigre play at Huracan in a game that starts 20 minutes after the Newell's/Estudientes match. Even on the road, this should be a very winable game for Tigre, so no help there.

Much the same with San Lorenzo, as they play Racing Club tomorrow. Racing have been anything but good over the last couple of seasons, so I'm not expecting much from them now.

Newell's also have to worry about Boca Jrs, who host Rosario Central on Sunday. As poorly as Boca have been playing of late they are still only 1 point behind Newell's. Central has been playing even worst, so I'm not expecting anything but a Boca win here, but this is one of those few times where I'm actually hoping Los Canallas can pull off an upset. Two reasons for that, really: Boca losing could give Newell's some breathing room, and secondly I don't want to see Central relegated, which, if they keep playing as poorly as they have, is a strong possibility.

Draw In Mendoza

Having not seen the game, I'm not sure what to think about the game between Newell's and Godoy Cruz. Certainly I can not deny the score, a 0-0 tie, but was it a point earned, or two points squandered?

According to La Capital Newell's had trouble getting their offense to flow, while Godoy, playing a simpler game, were more effective. When I look at the raw statistics on ESPNdeportes.com I see Newell's out shooting their opponents 9-5, but the shots that were actually on target were in Godoy's favor 3-2. They also had only 4 fouls compared to 11 for Newell's. That would all lead me to agree with La Capital's opinion, but it's often been argued that if teams are tied at the end of games, and a winner must be determined that the numbers of corners earned would be the best way to do so. If we go by that, Newell's had the better of the game 5-2.

San Lorenzo and Tigre both won their games, 1-0 against San Martín and 3-0 over Lanus respectively, Boca Jrs won their Clasico 1-0 at River. This puts San Lorenzo at the top of the tables with 25 points after 10 games. Tigre follows with 20, then Newell's with 18, and Boca with 17. River Plate and Rosario Central are joint bottom on 8 points, as Central lost 1-0 to Gimnasia LP.

Looking at the remain 9 games of the Apertura, Newell's and Tigre have 5 remaining road games, while San Lorenzo has 5 at home. With a 5 point lead over Tigre, 7 on Newell's, and a schedule that appears to be in their favor San Lorenzo looks all but certain to become Champions.

With no goals in Mendoza, I'll settle for the goal from the Central vs Gimnasia game... and own goal by Walter Ribonetto. That at least puts a bit of a smile on my face.

Godoy Cruz vs Newell's Preview

Tomorrow Newell's visit Godoy Cruz, and I for one would not take a bet on this game to save my life. Godoy are playing in the National A after having placed 2nd in the Primera B Nacional last season, and have three wins so far in the Apertura, one against Boca Jrs.

All things considered, I'm hopeful of a road win, but expecting such is a dangerous thing. If Gamboa has his players up for the game against El Expreso a win should be obtainable. However, if they go in expecting to win over an easy opponent, overconfidence could prove disastrous.

Probable Newell's lineup:

Sebastián Peratta; Pablo Aguilar, Rolando Schiavi, Juan Insaurralde y Germán Ré; Gastón Machín, Hernán Bernardello y Leonel Vangioni; Leandro Torres; Diego Torres y Cristian Fabbiani.

Of those players I'd rather we had an alternative to Machín, but then who goes into the lineup in his place? Pablo Pérez has shown some promise in the past, but has been inconsistent in the 6 games he's played in this season. After that, the squad does not appear to have much to choose from.

World Cup Qualifiers... the bombing of Cuba

United States 6 - 1 Cuba

Just finished watching this game on tape, as I was over at a friend's last night watching the first two Saw movies. First thing I have to say is that the score tells us nothing about this US team, and having watched it tells little more. Cuba are a team of players with no professional league to hone their skills in, so beating them by 5 goals isn't something to get excited about, it's merely to be expected.

That said, the margin of victory could well have been greater. I saw far too many giveaways for the US team to be happy with their performance. I was, however, greatly pleased to see Altidore score the final goal of the match after coming on in the second half.

Beasley was also pleasing, as he seems to be regaining his form, but against a team like Cuba I'm not going to let his two goals go to my head. Let's see how he, and the rest of the team faces some real competition... say like when they finally have to face Mexico later on in the final stages of these Qualifiers. Until then, the wins should just be expected.

Argentina 2 - 1 Uruguay

I tried to watch this game over the internet, I really did. I just couldn't. The small screen, the constant delays in the feed... just wasn't worth it. From what I understand it was an ugly game with lots of fouls and yellow cards flying. Tevez and Riquelme will miss Wednesday's game against Chile due to yellow card accumulation.

Still, a win for Argentina, which puts them in second place in the Qualifying table, 4 points off the pace being set by Paraquay of all teams. With 9 more games to play, there's still a long way to go before things are decided.

Vid: Newell's vs Tigre

Short post tonight, as it's late and I must be functional in the morning. Just the video of the goals Newell's scored against Tigre. Not the highest quality, but maybe there will be better tomorrow.

Having watched this makes me want to kick myself for some how missing the part Fabbiani played in this game.

A Win For A Tie For Second

Tonight Newell's defeated Tigre 2-0, a win that lofted Newell's into a second place tie with the very team they played. I once again watched the game over the internet, and, yes, still squinting to watch the action on a small video. It actually was easier to watch than the game against Boca as the feed didn't have to buffer as often, which I can only attribute to the fact that Tigre are not as well followed.

That is not to say that Tigre were an easy opponent, they have been playing well this season, and last year, their first after having been promoted, was solid, if not spectacular, earning 56 points over 38 games (in Argentina the season is split into two championships, 19 games each.) But tonight Newell's were on fire, out shooting them 13-2. Tigre managed to put both of their shots on target, both very dangerous counterattacks that Peratta managed to stop thanks both to good positioning sense and reflexes to match.

The goals were scored by Diego Torres in the 27th minute, and Vangioni in the 44th. While all the scoring occured in the first half, Newell's continued to press Tigre's defense through out the second, and if not for some solid keeping by Islas the margin of victory could well have been greater.

The outstanding players for Newell's were Schiavi, who continues to be dangerous in attack while making runs from his defensive position, both Diego and Leo Torres, as well as Bernardello. I will, of course, have video of the goals from this game, provided YouTube doesn't fail me.

San Lorenzo lead the standings with 22 pts in 9 games having beaten Velez Sarsfield 1-0 earlier in the day. Tigre and Newell's follow with 17. Boca Jrs could make it a three way tie for second tomorrow when they face Estudiantes LP.

While Boca should make easy work of Estudiantes, who have only 8 pts from the 8 games they've played, I'd hesitate to place any bets on that game. Boca have not been on the best of runs of late, having only won one game in their last five. On top of that they only managed a 1-1 tie this past Thursday with LDU Quito, the reigning Libertadores champions, in a Copa Sudamerica match up.

On a side note, Quito have Damián Manso on their roster and he played in the game against Boca. Manso is a former Newell's player, having started his career with them in 1996.

A Quick Change Of Fortunes

After losing to Boca Jrs 4-2 at home, I wasn't sure what to expect from Newell's as they visited Argentinos Jrs on Sunday. Argentinos have not been doing well this season, with only one win in seven games prior to Sunday's game, but are always tough at home. Add to that the fact that last season Newell's had a tendency to play well against better teams, only to fade against weaker opposition, the Boca loss coming in the last 5 minutes of the game could well have sapped the confidience from the team. I give all credit to coach Gamboa for not allowing any of these factors to have the effect that I feared could have occured.

The game was played in a stadium named Diego Armando Maradona, Argentinos home (Maradona seldom, if ever, acknowledges the fact that Argentinos are the team that gave him his start,) but it was the team Diego last played for who came to play. The score remained scoreless until the 42nd minute when Fabbiani took a low bouncing cross from Diego Torres, and converted from around 3 yards from the goal line. There were three Argentinos defender around him, but none did much to stop the pass, and all seemed happy to let him take the shot, much to keeper Torrico's dismay.

Down 1-0, Argentinos still had every chance to get back in the game... but then Grazzini scored from a deflection of a freekick taken by Schiavi in the 76th minute, and the floodgates opened.

In the 79th Newell's earned a penalty when Ferreya was taken down as he came into the penalty area from the right wing. The footage I've seen isn't clear, it could well have been a foul just outside the area, but not in the referree's judgement. Schiavi placed his shot almost straight down the center of the net, Torrico dove to his left and paid the price - 3-0 Newell's.

Then came the goal of the game. In the 88th minute, Perez found Bernardello as he made an angled run from the center of the field into the penalty area to the right side. Bernardello's bullet was past the Torrico and into the far side of the goal before the outstretched keeper landed empty handed on the ground.

All four goals can be viewed below. Once again, all thanks given to those on YouTube who's post give me a glimpse of Newell's and many other teams in action.
